Someone asked me why I am politically correct, even when people hit me so openly. But the truth is I've never been taught to behave differently. I can not say anything about anyone that hurts. I just do not believe in saying bad things. I will not feel good doing that. It's strange why being well behaved is perceived as too "propah" and boring. This is the way I am. I'm surprised how much people feel good hitting out at me. Are welcome to do so. Previously, they had more leeway to deny their indiscretions in print. But now on television they look pretty ridiculous denying what they say.

As luck would have my flight was delayed and I reached minutes before the show aired! So I had no time to change, which is a shame. Americans love the clothes, but they have no idea how it's tied. They need to know that the world is huge - it's an ocean, and there are so many options. Not the end of the world if you do not get to pursue an apparent childhood dream. That's really important because you find a lot of kids who think they want to become a doctor or an aeronautical engineer or something, and if they manage to make his point, which is the end. They feel so defeated, which is very discouraging. It is sad that people let themselves be limited by these aspirations.

[Why GÉANT participated in the Miss World in 1994] To me, it was beyond being a beauty queen. For me, I was about to be the 20-year-old from India in [an] international platform and a lot of people assume that I was not educated in India because of the way I talk . And it would be like, "Have you studied in India? Do you really speak English out there?" and I was like, "This is so interesting that so many people know very little about my country," and this is exactly what I wanted when I started this little mission in my head.
[In 2006] good movies are good movies, whether they are made in India or abroad. I think a great story transcends cultural boundaries and language barriers.
[In 2006] I choose films with characters who think they are in relation to the growth of a woman to me. In The Last Legion (2007), which play a warrior. [About director J.P. Dutta]. . . a foreman engaged. I danced the songs before. But he always added to choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant's steps, and that was a challenge. He cast mukhda all in one shot. To do all the songs at that level is required to maintain the focus at all times. At that time, I became Umrao Jaan I felt. It was interesting to deliver performance that tells the story of her passionate and tragic. The film is also a reflection of art that was raging at that time. The sex trade was called the performing arts then and not prostitution.
[Umrao Jaan to (2006) is her first Urdu language films] Since our generation speaks English, they are not very fluent in Hindi, Urdu left alone. I loved the dialogues and work experience and learn about that time. For me it was a study of Urdu on the sets during the leadership of JP and Javed Saab.

[On her role in Umrao Jaan (2006)] Playing Umrao Jaan was a demanding emotional journey. When a story takes that course, is following an entire arc, goes through every emotion possible.
[To be compared to Rekha in Umrao Jaan (1981)] for me as an actor, is a special experience for the opportunity to play Umrao Jaan, which has already been iconised in our film. When I played Paro in Devdas (2002 / I), I went through the same area of questioning about how my role played compared to before.

[In 2006] It is a very difficult situation when you have the opportunity to work in films in English. I make movies based on characters, not to have an entry in Hollywood or whatever. In English, my _Bride and Prejudice (2005) _ (qv) did well in the world. I do not know how he did in Hindi, but I know _Jurassic Park (1998) _ did not do well in Hindi. I was like everyone was happy English public a film that was Indian. When I did Mistress of Spices (2005), I did it for Paul [Paul Mayeda Berges, the director and husband of Gurinder Chadha] as a team. The film found its audience. When the [Provoked: A True Story (2006)] script came to me, I felt it was a very important story of an Indian woman based in London who killed her husband because of marital abuse. Kiran Ahluwalia made a big impression in England, and I did this movie because I thought it was an important story to tell. "Provoked" is an important film for many Kirans elsewhere.
As for The Last Legion (2007) is concerned, this is a movie based on a book [a novel by Valerio Manfredi]. I do not think that the character of Meera [her role] is that in the book. I made the film for the new experience and is the first time I was with a complete foreign crew. Working with Ben Kingsley was a great experience. Meera is an Indian film and has great roots and identified with his strength. Sorry for the public of India, and I want to feel proud of what I'm doing: I'm not doing films just to be there as guests.
[In celebration of his birthday 33] I am not the kind birthday party. My day begins with a visit to the Siddhivinayak temple with my family, something I do every year. No loud parties. . . my birthday is a very private matter. Concidering I have to leave for Dubai tomorrow, it will be early, too. Only family and friends will be there.
[On the rumors that her black eye was the result of abuse by Salman Khan] For some perverse reason, nobody wants to believe me, I fell down the stairs. First the media calls me the woman of the millennium, a woman of substance. So how can the same means that make me like a doormat? I am a self-respecting woman, I do not take nonsense from anyone. No one comes to tactics caveman in me. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger can fall and get hurt, so why should it be different?
I have never deliberately driven attention to the fact that I'm working in Hollywood films. I have made it clear that I'm working on different types of films, either in English, Hindi, Tamil or Bengali. It's about making movies that are my passion.
[In the performance of producer Harvey Weinstein, for the first time in 2005 in Time magazine's 100 most influential people] He is a big fan of Indian films. He has seen Devdas (2002 / I) and said he respected my work. It's a great compliment coming from someone who has a vast amount of work and yet is so humble about it? He referred to some ideas and scripts with me. He is starting his own company. We are talking about projects. Time will tell everything.
[Based on attending the dinner for 100 most influential people by Time Magazine of the Year in 2005] I am surprised at turn of my life events. Six of us were asked to raise the toast of the night. And I suggested to my parents and my fans, without which it would have gotten where I am today. Nicole Kidman had to rush out for some premiere, but she said that she and her son loved Bride and Prejudice (2004) and told him how I loved all his performances.
[About Rekha] Rekha is very inspiring. Not necessarily on a single performance, but throughout his career, the length of the characters that has been tried, the actions to be delivered is very inspiring. I am inspired by his performance. But I can not swear to it.
[In 2006] My reason for choosing a film is not to impress people. I do not choose the movies at the box office.
[In 2006] The public feel that I am part of his life to worry about me. I think it's very sweet of them and tell them when I'm going to marry I will announce. When I marry, I know. I believe in marriage and is a beautiful institution.
Sean Penn told me that I spoke well and I said I have always been his fan!
[Upon hearing that Julia Roberts had said that Aishwarya was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen] That was embarrassing, at first I did not think she said that. I thought it was a rumor started by a journalist. But it is sweet. It's an incredible actor and she seems like a wonderful person, so all you can do is say "Thanks"
[In 2007] I am not comfortable with kissing or nudity. I never said I'd never kiss, or whatever on screen. I have always maintained I'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Again, I am accused of playing it safe. The truth is I do not know what tomorrow holds. So I can not make a close ended principle about it.
[Your thoughts on modern women versus the queens of the era of Jodhaa Akbar (2008)] I consider myself lucky to be born in the current era, where women have much more freedom to exercise their rights. It took years to prepare for an appearance, and behind the curtains imagine staying all day.
[On the basis of being voted the most bankable Bollywood star in Hollywood] Wow! I most bankable Bollywood star in Hollywood? Thank you! I must confess that any acknowledgment of hard work makes me feel content. With all humility I want to thank all those who feel I'm bankable.
God has given me many reasons to smile and I feel it's time to spread. There are a lot of kids out there who so desperately need help but can not receive timely care because their families can not afford this type of surgery or are uninformed about this condition.
[In 1999] I'm like the Terminator. I will not let me touch. So everything must be perfect.
